The creation of the Métis Nation of Ontario Cultural Commission (MNOCC) was to provide the MNO with a vehicle for charitable enterprises, with an overall mission to preserve and promote Métis history, values, traditions and pride in Métis arts, culture and heritage. The MNOCC is incorporated as a not-for-profit, non-share corporation under the Ontario Business Corporations Act and has charitable tax status. As a registered charity, the MNOCC can function as a fund-raising tool and can issue tax receipts for contributions that support its objectives.

While it has always been the intention that this charitable entity would operate at arms length from MNO, the MNOCC is connected to, and is part of, the MNO. The MNOCC represents one of three corporate entities that make up the MNO; which also include the MNO Secretariat (MNO’S administrative arm) and the Métis Voyageur Development Fund (MNO’s economic arm).

Members

The nine-member Board of Directors are appointed by the PCMNO, following a call for Directors to all MNO citizens. MNO’s Chief Operating Officer sits as an Ex-Officio member.

In the near future, “Expression of Interest” applications will be issued to the community, inviting verified citizens of the MNO to submit an application to be considered for a position as Director on the MNOCC. Current MNOCC Bylaws state that Directors be appointed for a term of three (3) years and must be at least 18 years of age.
